Even a Cottage Pie can be a thing of beauty

We can all make it... So why include it? 'Cos this is blog about ordinary simple cooking, and comfort foods have a place
on everyone's menu.

Ingredients

500 gm decent beef mince
Garlic
2 Rashers of bacon
2 Onions
Tomato
Carrot
Peas
Beef Stock
Worcester Sauce
1 tbl spoon tomato ketchup
Bay leaf
Thyme
Peas
Potatoes
Milk
Butter
Cheese

I prefer to fry the mince first, breaking it up to small bits, do till separated and browned but not too long, put bacon pieces in. Then put aside and put the onions, garlic and chopped carrots in stir for a few minutes, add the mince, add the stock, add tomato cut in quarters, add herbs, Worcester and ketchup, simmer for half an hour, then add some frozen peas, season.

Meanwhile make some really good, lump free mash that's got a little butter, a drop of milk and seasoning.

Use two fish slices to arrange your slabs of spuds over the mince mixture and scatter Cheddar cheese and put into 180 degree oven for half an hour.

As the picture shows -  make loads, It disappears!
