Chicken Xacuti - Goan Chicken Curry - Recipe
This is a fiery dish, supposed by the Goans to give health. Goan thinking was that the heat of the chillis protected you. True or not you are fearless to eat this. Chicken Xacuti - Goan Chicken Curry has move chilli than a vindaloo. There are quite a few steps to this dish but it is worth it. Xacuti is known as Chacuti in Portugese.Ingredients:-
Dried coconut or fresh, a tin of coconut milk would also work.
Tamarind paste 1tblsp
Cloves 6
Ginger - about an inch
Nutmeg 1/2 tsp
White poppy seeds 1 tblsp
Onion
Cinnamon stick
Curry leaves
Chicken Marinade
Garlic 2 clovesTurmeric
Ginger
Lemon/Lime juice
Fresh Coriander
Step 1 marinate chicken pieces for half an hour or so or overnight.
Step 2 In a dry pan roast for a minute or so the dried chillis, Dried Kashmir long red chillis, star anise, cardamon seeds, black pepper corns, fennel seeds, cinnamon stick, then add the dried coconut, then add coriander powder. Fry for another minute or so, you are aiming at toasting the coconut. Remove the cinnamon stick, star anise and set aside.
Step 3
In a little oil add a chopped onion and fry till slightly browning, add the chicken from it's marinade and fry for a couple of minutes, add it's marinade and a tin of chopped toms, then add curry leaves a tblsp of tamarind paste, and simmer for fifteen minutes, add water if required, then add the smooth sauce and simmer away for half an hour or until your chicken is done.
