Barcelona Cawl - Chorizo, Potatoes, Butterbeans, Peppers & Tomatoes
I stumbled on this recipe on You Tube, the seemingly Spanish guy was talking this strange language, didn't sound like Espanol, clicking on other links it transpired he was a Welsh TV presenter on S4c who was also Spanish, Yaki Da, and further enquiry revealed as everyone knows in er Wales is that 'cawl' means 'stew'. Yaki Da means 'cheers', or 'good health'. Not just grub but a useful language lesson just in case you go passed Offas dyke* to somewhere unpronounceable.
*I had a client that moved to Brighton (she was is gorgeous) and I asked what the main difference in people was between here and there and she said that in Cumbria the men were after her, in Brighton the women were after her too...
Anyway this Cawl is popular in Barcelona, and with no more Ramblas here's how to throw together a bloody tasty pan of food in minutes.

Peel yer Chorizo and slice into 5 mm ish rounds, then put it into an already hot pan which has a little butter and some olive oil. Fry for a few minutes until it takes some colour, turn over. What you want is lots of lovely flavour to come out of the Chirizo and turn the oil golden. Then remove and set aside the sausage.
Throw in a finely chopped onion and thinly sliced red pepper and stir around until the onion becomes translucent then add two sliced cloves of garlic, don't burn it. Next put a big squirt of tomato puree in and push it around a bit - this makes it sweeter. Add a tablespoon of paprika and a few cherry toms cut in half. Whist you have been doing the above you'll have also peeled a few large spuds and cut them into equal sized small cubes, rinse them to remove the starch, now lob 'em in. Add water and bring to a simmer after a few minutes add a tin of rinsed butter beans and the Chorizo, check seasoning, maybe add a pinch of cayenne-I use Harissa and when the pots are just softened it's ready.
Next take a moment to think of yourself as a diva, strike a pose, take a fleeting look and admire your reflection from the stainless steel pan. Now, French baguettes and a large glass of Rioja to the ready, a deep breath, yes fill your lungs, you are Freddy... It's your moment. Do it diva
