How to make Bramble Gin - blackberry gin recipe
There's something good for the soul gained by picking ripe Blackberries from the hedgerow at this time of the year, and this cordial will warm you when you need a pick up in Winter.
I found this recipe as a tiny cutting from a local paper clipped to a page in a Cumberland W.I cookbook from the 1960's or thereabouts. I wonder if the lady who's copper plate writing adorns this book enjoyed it.
So gather about a lb of brambles, wash and add to a pan without any liquid and gently heat until the juice starts to run. Add some sugar, half a lemon and its juice, a cinnamon stick and a couple of cloves, add a bottle of cheap gin and simmer for five minutes. Then strain, allow to cool and rebottle.
Hide the bottle away from yourself for a couple of months till Christmas
