Hot Lightning

 

The Dutch are potatoholics and mash with something is common there, mashed sprouts and carrots, or endive, or spinach. There's nothing wrong with stammpott, very easy comfort food. 

This dish is called 'hot lightning' as the apples keep the dish hot a long time, and if your not careful burning your mouth. It's served with bacon or sausage but as above with some black pudding, oh that goes together so well.

So simply put some spuds on to boil with just enough water to cover, and after ten mins or so add pieces of apple to a similar amount as the pots. Mash, season, and serve.
